Bowls: Leith BC ace McKay into knockout final
ALISTAIR McKAY of Leith BC will represent the proud 152-year-old club in the finals of the Edinburgh Bowling League Knockout Championships at Corstorphine on Saturday, 5 September.
Last night's semi-final action of the championships, sponsored by Ian Mackay Contracts of Edinburgh, saw McKay play superbly well in the Singles at Mayfield to edge a 21-19 thriller in 23 ends against title favourite Paul Veitch of Parkside.
The other semi-final at the Dean produced its own dramatic climax with Paul Jeromson of Summerside winning 21-20 on the final end after coming back from 14-9 down against Peter Grantham of Niddrie.
George Kirk of Blackhall will bid for a record-extending fourth title against London Road Foundry star George Kyle.
Kirk beat Neil Watson of Parkside 21-11 at Mayfield while the previous night Kyle had battled to a 21-15 success over Gavin Rogers of Pilrig.
The Pairs action at Mayfield brought joy to the Dean with Roddy Watson skipping John Underwood to a 15-11 success over John Newall and Colin Bell of Hillside.
Meanwhile, over at the Dean club there was a runaway success for Tanfield with Peter Findlay and Marshall Shearer exploding from 4-5 to 16-5 to derail Neil Hunter and Ian Duffus of Tramways.
Wardie trio Gordon Waddell, Brian Combe and Scott Walker added two singles to clinch a 12-8 victory over Jimmy Headspeath, Kevin Moncur and Keith Gallacher of Hillside at Mayfield.
Niddrie were untroubled at Dean with Davy Scott skipping John McCormack and Gary Swain to a 15-7 win over Jim Duncan, Peter Morris and Alan Flockhart of Maitland.
The results in the Fours saw Parkside beat Liberton 15-9 and Niddrie beat Pilrig 13-9, while Hillside and Civil Service progressed in the Seniors Fours.
