Boss Sinnet calls it a day after Rose defeat

JIM SINNET has sensationally quit as manager of Linlithgow Rose in the wake of Saturday's 4-1 hammering by Carnoustie Panmure.

Sinnet, one of the most successful junior managers of recent times, won an incredible 19 trophies during a six-and-a-half year spell at Prestonfield but has walked away following a disappointing season that has seen Rose surrender the Scottish Junior Cup and Super League title. He took charge of the team for one final time yesterday for Danny Smith's testimonial match against a strong Falkirk XI and revealed his decision immediately after the 6-1 defeat in front of a crowd of more than 1000.

"I need a break. I've had 17 years in management and I'm drained," said Sinnet. "I feel it's the right time to bow out and give the new man coming in a chance to stamp his style on the side before the end of the season.

"We've had some great times during the seven years I've been here and I would like to thank the players and committee for all the support they gave me. I'm proud of my record as possibly the best Junior manager of the modern era. The run we had in the senior Scottish Cup this season gave me a lot of enjoyment."

On Saturday, Rose were well beaten by a hard-working Carnoustie side battling to avoid relegation. Scott Robertson gave the home side the lead before Jon Voigt doubled their advantage. A Darryn Smith own goal gave Rose hope but a second for Voigt and a Sean Mushin cracker sealed the points for the home side.
