Boroughmuir 11 - 35 Currie: Rampant Currie sweep 'Muir aside
CURRIE won their third league match out of the last four on Saturday with a display of pace and power that their beleaguered hosts were simply unable to deal with at Meggetland.
The visitors built up a 20-6 lead over Boroughmuir, who had eight first-choice players missing, before the break. They were just as strong in the second half and eventually won 35-11, grabbing a deserved bonus point in the process. They are now up to fifth in the table.
Currie captain Andy Adam said: "Meggetland is always a tough place to go, so to come away with five points having played so well is great for us."
While recording their three recent victories, the Malleny Park men have racked up an impressive 132 points. On Saturday their backline, with full-back Jonny Smith to the fore, appeared hungry from the outset. The hosts had taken an early lead through a penalty, but three tries before the interval put Currie in charge.
Smith got the first one after hooker Colin Quigley had started the move and seven minutes later centre Mike Conlon ran all of 60 metres to score after charging down a kick from out-of-sorts 'Muir stand-off Matt Cannon.
The third came in the 24th minute through winger Andrew Turnbull, his third in two matches, and the lead was 14 points at the halfway mark. After the break it was more Currie domination, Smith getting his second try and winger Douglas Fife going over before a late consolation try from Ben Fisher.
