Bonnyrigg win tight contest

Bonnyrigg Rose 3, Hill o'Beath Hawthorn 0 A FINE GAME played in atrocious conditions with the home side coming out on top, albeit slightly flattered by the margin of victory.

Hawthorn were dominant in the first half and had good players in Roger Duffin, John McCulloch and Shaun Martin. However Bonnyrigg were strong in defence with Scott Ritchie and Ally Reid outstanding.

With the strong wind behind them, Hill o'Beath forced the pace with Andy Lawson creating danger on the left and only a fine tackle from Ritchie saved the Rose.

However, midway through the half Paddy Flannery evaded a couple of tackles and, although Joe Houston parried his first effort, the home striker fired in the rebound.

The visitors were unlucky to be behind but they came under more pressure in the second half. David Burrell, Stevie Noble and James Morrice bossed the midfield and Bonnyrigg created more chances. Hill O'Beath however kept going forward and it was a good contest.

Then Paddy Flannery netted a brilliant second goal with eight minutes remaining, turning Roger Duffin before firing home a 25-yard shot. Super sub Dean Walker sealed the victory just before the end with a fine volley from all of 30 yards.
