Baxters bow out

ALAIN BAXTER’S disappointing start to the World Cup Skiing season continued last night when he failed to qualify for the first run of a floodlit slalom at the Italian resort of Sestriere.

The Edinburgh-born Scot, who lives in Aviemore and has switched ski manufacturers this season, also failed to make an impact in a World Cup event in America before flying to Europe.

His younger brother, Noel, qualified but failed to finish the first run in the event won by American star Bode Miller who clocked 50.51sec and 48.52sec.
