Badminton: Doubles joy for Capital duo

Edinburgh’s Gemma Wright and Shona Whillans (Longniddry) won the Under-15 girls’ doubles at the Scottish National Badminton Championships at Ravenscraig Sports Centre.

The top seeds overcame Eleanor O’Donnell (Beith) and Cara McCulloch (Catrine) 
21-19, 21-19.

In the boys’ doubles, Edinburgh’s Glen Lewington and Ciar Pringle (Giffnock) reached the final but lost 21-5, 21-15 to Alex Dunn (Motherwell) and Matthew Duguid (Stonehaven).

In the Under-19s, Edinburgh’s Heather MacPherson claimed the mixed doubles title alongside Mauchline’s Adam Hall. Heather and her younger sister, Julie, finished runners-up in the women’s doubles, while Julie also made it to the final of the singles before losing to top seed Rebekka Findlay of Erskine.
