Athletics: Capital's athletes win award

EDINBURGH AC have been named Scottish Track and Field Club of the Year at the annual Awards dinner of Scottish Athletics and Capital coach Chris Black has been named Performance Coach of the Year for his work with hammer-throwers Mark Dry and Andy Frost, who should both be medal contenders for next year's Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Last season, EAC won both men's and women's Scottish League titles and the women retained their UK League Division One status.

Lauren Peffers, who regularly represents EAC in the 400 and 800 metres in the UK and Scottish Women's League, has been recognised as the Disability Athlete of the Year.

Pitreavie's Eilidh Child scooped three awards, as the Scottish Athlete of the Year, the Scottish Under-23 Athlete of the Year and the winner of the George Dallas Memorial Trophy for her major achievements in the sport.

Highlight of a season in which she improved by over a second in the 400m hurdles, and only just missed breaking Sinead Dudgeon's Scottish record, was a silver medal in the European Under-23 Championships in Kaunas for which her coach Stuart Hogg was named "Podium Coach of the Year."
