Monday
THE Repbulic of Ireland play their final warm-up game ahead of Euro 2012 when they line up in Budapest tonight against Hungary, with a line-up likely to bear a strong resemblance to that which faces Croatia in the tournament opener. Scotland’s cricketers are in action against Hampshire in the Clydesdale Bank 40 group B. Andy Murray playS Richard Gasquet in the last 16 of the French Open in Paris, while the Isle of Man TT features the Supersport and Superstock Races.
Tuesday
SCOTLAND’S rugby players open their summer tour with a Test match against Australia in Newcastle, where coach Andy Robinson will hope to take encouragement from his side’s first outing since picking up the wooden spoon in a Six Nations campaign which featured a clean sweep of defeats. Scotland’s cricketers are again on the their travels in the Clydesdale Bank 40, this time taking on Surrey. The French Open continues, while there’s racing at Ffos Las, Leicester, Redcar and Yarmouth
Wednesday
ENGLAND fly out for Euro 2012, with the pre-tournament build-up noteworthy for the lack of hype attached to Roy Hodgson’s injury-hit squad. The GB Olympic rowing squad is due to be announced, while there are four games in the LV= County Championship: Durham v Warwickshire, Middlesex v Somerset, Nottinghamshire v Lancashire and Sussex v Surrey. Race meetings are scheduled for Cartmel, Fontwell, Kempton, Nottingham and Ripon.
Thursday
THE third Investec Test between England and the West Indies starts at Edgbaston, and, with the series won, England have opted to rest James Anderson. In rugby union, England will announce their team to play South Africa in Durban on Saturday. In golf, the FedEx St Jude Classic in Tennessee, the Nordea Masters in Stockholm and the Wegmans LPGA Championship in New York tee off. Athletics’ Diamond League meeting in Oslo gets under way.
Friday
THE opening match in Euro 2012 kicks off, with co-hosts Poland taking on 2004 winners Greece in Warsaw, while the other Group A match sees Russia facing the Czech Republic, who qualified along with Spain from Scotland’s group. Practice gets under way in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix, while the Isle of Man TT comes to an end. The GB pentathlon and triathlon teams are due to be announced and there’s a busy day of racing, featuring meetings at Bath, Catterick, Doncaster, Goodwood, Market Rasen and Newmarket.
