Radcliffe bounces back

PAULA Radcliffe demonstrated her recovery from a bout of bronchitis in the Chiba Ekiden International Relay in Japan yesterday.

The world marathon champion ran the second stage for the Norwich Union Great Britain side in the marathon relay, with athletes contesting varying distances. She ran an inspirational 10km leg of 31min 41sec to haul the British women into fourth place.

Her time was the second-fastest 10km behind the 31:18 of Evelyn Wambui, representing Kenya, the eventual winners.

Despite her efforts and those of Jo Ankier, Kate Reed, Charlotte Dale, Birhan Dagne and Kate Ramsay, the side finished seventh in 2hr 22min 30sec. The British men were also seventh, with Kenya easy winners in 1:57:06.
