CAPITAL canoeist David Florence won a silver medal in the C2 event at the Rio Olympics today.

Florence, 34, teamed up with Richard Hounslow in the doubles event as they added to the silver they won in 2012.

The pair finished second behind Slovakian cousins Ladislav and Peter Skantar and sealed silver when the final pair down, Frenchmen Franz Anton and Jan Benzien, failed to overhaul their time.

For Florence, the achievement makes up for the bitter disappointment he felt when finishing last in the singles (C1) final on Tuesday.

It is the second medal for the Great Britain canoe slalom team after Joe Clarke’s gold in the men’s K1 category yesterday.
