No duel for Dudgeon

Emily Dudgeon has refused to label her 800m World Juniors final in Barcelona as a showdown with English teenage sensation Jessica Judd.

But the 19-year-old Scot is determined to have nothing left in the tank at the Olympic Stadium.

Dudgeon won her semi-final in 2.02.32, a new personal best, while 17-year-old Judd, edged that by just two hundredths of a second in a different race.

The pair are ranked 1 and 2 in the final field in terms of their semi-final times but Dudgeon insisted, “Jessica is a fine young athlete but I am not thinking that this final is just about two British girls. We need to be wary of a few others, as well.

“My approach for these championships was to make sure I was knackered at the end of my last race. Now that is going to be the final and I’m delighted.”
