THE first City of Edinburgh Running Festival, will take place on a diagonal grass track at Boroughmuir Rugby Football ground at Meggetland on Friday July 5 and, if ambition has anything to do with it, it is certain to be a success.

More than 300 entries have been received and with a top prize of £3000 for the Ortholink 110 metres handicap sprint and a £750 first prize for the handicap 800m there is sure to be a strong entry of the top runners who compete in Border and Highland Games.

According to Graeme Armstrong, chairman of the organising committee, this will be the first Open Athletics meeting of the summer circuit to take place in Edinburgh.
