Kenteris and Thanou to discover fate

GREEK sprinters Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou will discover today what punishment they face for failing to take drug tests before the Athens Olympics. The Greek Athletics Federation (CEGAS) is to announce the verdicts at 4pm after a council meeting.

Should it not impose the mandatory two-year suspensions on both athletes, then the International Association of Athletics Federations could take the case on to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Equally, the athletes would also have the same right of appeal.

The duo were provisionally suspended by the IAAF in December after the organisation said explanations from the pair and their former coach Christos Tzekos as to why they missed the tests on the eve of the Games were "unacceptable".

All three have given evidence, while Kenteris and Thanou also face a criminal hearing in Greece over the controversial missed drug tests which saw them miss the Athens Games.
