Injury blow for McAslan

Yet another top Scottish athlete has called quits on the season due to injury.

Following high jump ace Jayne Nisbet’s decision to finish her season due to an ankle injury, Scottish 400 metre champion Kirsten McAslan has been forced out due to two stress fractures in her right foot.

“She’s been told she must have no weight-bearing for two months then must wear an air-boot for a further two months so it will be four months before she can even start jogging again,” said her former EAC triple-jumper father Ewan. “Just as well we were able to get it scanned and it was found; if it has to happen it’s better now than at the start of the season.”

Cheshire-based McAslan, whose mother Fiona (née Hargreaves) represented Scotland in the 400m in the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, missed out on the World Juniors in Barcelona as her best time, in the weather-cursed early season, was just outside the qualifying time.

She is a training partner of English 800m star
Jenny Meadows who was squeezed out for the Olympics in favour Edinburgh’s of Lynsey Sharp.
