Grangemouth’s record entry

Scottish Athletics have reported a record entry for the Scottish Age Group Championships in Grangemouth tomorrow and Sunday.

Over the four age groups, the Under-14 and Under-18 tomorrow and the Under-16 and Under-20 on Sunday, the entries are up 58 per cent, from 890 to 1403 with almost 400 more in the two younger age groups.

Ben Robbins (EAC), who was fifth in the AAA Under-17 event at Bedford last Sunday, will be one of the favourites for the Scottish Under-18 400 metres title provided he can defeat Jersey-based Robbie Stenhouse, who defeated him in the Celtic International in Aberdeen.

Clubmates Morro Bajo, Silvano Mercantonio and Kingsley Cunningham will also be in the mix after Bajo finished third in the AAA Under-17 200m and a close-up fourth in the 100m and Mercantonio was fourth in the Under-15 400m in a personal best of 37.46.
