Glasgow put in bid to host Youth Games
Glasgow will compete against four other cities to host the 2018 Youth Olympic Games after the deadline to submit bids to the International Olympic Committee closed. And it will be a battle between Europe, South and Central America for votes ahead of the decision which will be made in Lausanne on 4 July 2013.
Buenos Aires, Guadalajara, Medellin and Rotterdam have joined Glasgow in tabling their proposals to stage the event, which involves over 6,000 teenage athletes. A Working Group, chaired by IOC member Claudia Bokel, will now analyse the candidature files and prepare a report on the merits of each bid.
The IOC Executive Board will decide in February which cities will be shortlisted for further evaluation.
Meanwhile, UK Athletics last night announced that its strategic head of coaching and development, Kevin Tyler, has decided to leave his post in order to return to Canada with his family.
Tyler helped put in place the “secret legacy” of the 2012 Games – a fully revamped UK coach education system, supported by world-class coaching resources, such as UKA’s online home of coach education – uCoach. In 2011, UKA was honoured as Sports Coach UK’s ‘Coaching Governing Body of the Year’ in recognition of the work done by Tyler and his team in developing the new coach education system.
