Edinburgh long jumper grounded by floods

Due to the severe flooding Edinburgh AC long jumper Lisa Ferguson was struggling to get out of Newcastle today to join her clubmates as they travel to Eton Manor for the second UK Women’s League first division matches.

Ferguson, who jumped a personal best of 6.14 metres in the UK Trials, just missing out on a last-eight place and a further three jumps, will be joined by long jumper Sarah Warnock.

EAC team manager Ann Scott wanted a stronger team available this time after a disastrous first outing in Birmingham when the club finished eighth.

Gillian Cooke makes a surprise return in the 100m and long jump after the cancellation of a bobsleigh event and UK Under-23 high jump champion Emma Nuttall will seek to make amends for a disappointing outing at the senior championships.

Kath Evans, Louisa Stewart and Laura Dunn are in the middle distance events and Susan McKelvie, Hannah Evenden and Julia Siart form a formidable trio in the throws.
