Digest: Gary Cornish keeps up fine record
Inverness heavyweight Gary Cornish extended his record to five wins out of five with a points decision over Lithuanian Remigijus Ziausys in Liverpool last night.
Cornish will be back in the ring in Aberdeen on 25 February on the undercard of Lee McAllister’s bid to win the European light-welterweight title.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY: Scots survive relegation tussle
A NARROW 3-2 victory over Slovakia guaranteed the Scots survival in the relegation pool in the women’s European Indoor Nations Championships in Denmark.
An earlier 3-2 defeat by France had meant Scotland faced Slovakia, Russia and Denmark to avoid the drop.
GOLF: Asian tour spot for Byrne
Banchory’s James Byrne kept his nerve in the last round of the Final Qualifying School at Cha Am, Thailand to earn playing rights on the Asian Tour. The 24-year-old shot 68, 69, 75 and 72 for a four-under-par total of 284 and joint 28th place.
BADMINTON: Double blow for Bankier
SCOTLAND’S Imogen Bankier and England’s Chris Adcock, the No.1 seeds, were knocked out in the semi-finals of the mixed doubles at the Swedish International in Stockholm yesterday.
Their rivals for GB’s Olympic place – England’s Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork – reached the final.

BERWICK teenager Guy Learmonth boosted his bid to win selection for the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul in March by winning the 800m in 1:51.03 at the Scottish National Open Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.
