Capital club quits league

Edinburgh Athletic Club will not contest the British Athletics League qualifying competition next month.

It had been thought that following last season’s disappointing effort to rejoin the league EAC would make a further attempt this year.

But club spokesman Keith Ridley explained: “We feel we don’t have the depth in certain events to make this worthwhile at the moment – we are particularly short of senior throwers.”

Glasgow City, who only entered the BAL three years ago, secured promotion to division one last weekend after clinching the division two title following the final match in London. Another successful campaign next year and they could be in the Premier League in time for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
