Bristow and Cundy takes gold in Paralympics
MARK Bristow and Jody Cundy have followed Darren Kenny to cycling gold as Great Britain's dominance of the Laoshan Velodrome track continued in Beijing today.
Bristow triumphed in the men's LC1 one-kilometre time-trial in a world record of one minute 08.873 seconds for Britain's ninth gold of the Games.
Kenny, from Dorset, won his second gold of the Games – defending a title won in Athens for a second time – with victory in the men's CP3 one-kilometre time-trial ahead of compatriot Rik Waddon.
Kenny clocked his second world record, finishing in a time of 1min 08.668secs, while Waddon won silver in 1min 11.161secs.
Jody Cundy followed Kenny and Bristow to top spot on the podium with a stunning world record ride of 1:05.466 in the men's LC2 one-kilometre time-trial for Britain's seventh track cycling gold of the Games.
The 29-year-old, who was born without the fibula in his right leg, competed in three Paralympics as a swimmer and won three titles in the pool before switching to the velodrome in July 2006.
The Swansea rider saw Czech rival Jiri Jezek clock a Paralympic record of 1.11.182 before blitzing round the track to lower his own world best.
Britain also won two athletics silver medals, with Ben Rushgrove and Libby Clegg finishing second in their respective 100 metres finals.
