Arthur makes solid link up with McCrory
ALEX ARTHUR has agreed to link up with TV boxing pundit and former IBF cruiserweight champion Glenn McCrory in a bid to boost his career at lightweight.
Arthur, the former WBO super-featherweight champ, said: "Glenn felt, as a boxing coach, that he could maximise my potential in world terms at my new fighting weight.
"We had preliminary talks and agreed that Glenn should help me out.
"I will go to down to Durham and train with Glenn and he will also come up to Edinburgh to work with me. I'm looking forward to working with him."
McCrory, who has recently obtained a cornerman's licence, said: "I think that I can help Alex in his new career as a lightweight."
Meanwhile, Capital amateur heavyweight Steve Simmons has accepted Leith Victoria club boss Dougie Fraser's offer to top the bill at the annual Leith Victoria Christmas show on December 7 in the Edinburgh Masonic club at Shrubhill.
Simmons is currently pondering two offers to turn pro and has decided he'll go into the paid ranks at cruiserweight.
He said: "That weight that suits me better than heavyweight but there is no such weight in the amateurs."
