Arthur hoping he'll win bid for world title
WBO Interim super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur was today on tenterhooks as he awaited a decision on whether his proposed world title fight with Joan Guzman would take place in Scotland.
Arthur's manager Frank Warren has outlined his purse bid to stage the fight to Guzman's camp and Arthur will learn tonight what the outcome is.
However, even if the fight goes ahead here, it is unlikely to be in Edinburgh, never mind Arthur's dream of fighting at Edinburgh Castle.
Arthur said: "Although Frank has pledged to put my challenge to Guzman on in Scotland it won't be in Edinburgh as the last time a world title show was staged at Ingliston in 2005 loads of fans complained about not being able to see the ring properly, so almost certainly it will go ahead in Glasgow.
"The waiting and tension that I've endured over the festive period will finally be ended at around 8.30pm tonight when the WBO will announce whether Frank Warren's bid has been successful.
"I've now watched Guzman in action on videotape and, quite honestly, he would be my toughest ever opponent as a pro.
"Guzman is a class ring act, who is coached by Floyd Mayweather senior and quite frankly I'd have my work cut out fighting him.
"He's the first and only opponent who has made me think beforehand that there is a chance he might even beat me, so victory over Guzman would be no foregone conclusion, but I'd still be giving it my best shot."
