Arthur renews McCormack coaching link
CAPITAL boxer Alex Arthur has sealed a new coaching link-up with Lochend club boss Terry McCormack.
Former WBO superfeatherweight champion Arthur will renew his professional relationship with McCormack – who was his chief cornerman and coach in 2002-03 – in preparation for his move to lightweight, starting with a bout in Glasgow on March 27.
"I've taken a lot of flak for constantly changing my ring corner team but this time Terry McCormack is here to stay," said Arthur. "He will be with me until I retire. When Terry last coached me I only lost once and he is a great motivator so I'm really fired up about us getting back into action."
As ever in the world of boxing, Arthur has had to endure several changes of plan.
"At first I was told that I'd be fighting for an international lightweight title but now I've been informed that I will, in fact, be contesting a non-title ten rounder in Glasgow.
"I will be fighting a selected opponent at a catchweight of 9st 12lb and that suits me as it will help get rid of ring rust before I actually fight for an international lightweight title in May.
"The stakes are too high for me to go into an international title clash without a warm-up bout first."
McCormack said of the link-up with Arthur: "I've worked with him on and off since his amateur days and I too am looking forward to March 27 and getting the show on the road again."
