Arthur fighting fit

ALEX ARTHUR and his promoters, Sports Network moved quickly yesterday in an attempt to quash rumours that the Edinburgh super-featherweight's world title bout with WBO champion Joan Guzman is under threat, writes Jim Black.

Rumours that 29-year-old Arthur has suffered an injury have swept the capital in the past few days, leading to fears that the challenger will be forced to pull out of the bout, scheduled for Meadowbank Sports Arena on Saturday, 3 May.

But Arthur, the WBO interim champion, dismissed the claims. "There is no foundation to them whatsoever," he said.

"Any suggestion that I am suffering from an injury is nonsense.

I have just returned from sparring in the States and I am in great shape. I feel good after a period of very intensive training."
