Arbroath go clear, while Annan finally win at night
Albion Rovers, Arbroath and Stranraer were looking to top the Third Division last night, and by the time the final whistles blew at Cliftonhill and Galabank it was Arbroath who emerged as the top dogs as they beat Albion Rovers 2-0.
The Gayfield men went in front with 19 minutes played when recent signing Lee Sibanda crossed and striker Steven Doris volleyed in from the left-hand side of the box. Doris notched a second goal nine minutes into the second period to move the Red Lichties four points clear.
Annan's 20th midweek game as a SFL club finally saw the Galabank men pick up three points from an evening kick-off as they defeated ten-man Stranraer 2-1.
Paul Murphy had edged the Blues in front on 25 minutes; however, Annan were level within 60 seconds as Sean O'Connor turned in an Aaron Muirhead cross. It got worse for the Blues with striker Michael Moore being red-carded on 28 minutes for violent conduct before Ian Harty headed Harry Cairney's men in front just before half-time.
Queen's Park's fantastic form continued as they defeated Clyde for the second time in three days. Unlike Saturday's 4-0 walkover, the Spiders had to battle all the way for their 3-2 success at Broadwood. Marc McCusker gave Clyde the lead on 25 minutes, but Jamie Longworth struck twice before half-time to put Queen's in front.
Nicki Paterson headed home a second for Jim Duffy's men 12 minutes into the second half, but substitute Michael Daly who had come on for Longworth grabbed the winner with 18 minutes left.
Berwick Rangers moved up to sixth place after defeating East Stirling 2-0. Darren Gribben shot home after 12 minutes to put the Shielfield men in front and defender Andy McLean headed home to double their lead, before Gribben grabbed a third 11 minutes from time.
