Cricket Scotland: Majid Haq returns after ban

SCOTLAND’S most capped cricketer Majid Haq has been cleared to return to action following a breach of discipline which saw him sent home early from the World Cup in Australia in March.

Haq was adjudged to have made an inappropriate comment on social media, in which he suggested he had been victimised on the grounds of race.

The 32-year-old from Paisley was omitted from the Scotland team defeated by 148 runs by Sri Lanka in Hobart. Such was his disappointment at being left out that he tweeted: “Always tougher when your [sic] in the minority #colour #race”.

The off-spinner was immediately sent home early from the tournament and has not played since.

But in a statement today the Scottish game’s governing body said: “Cricket Scotland has announced today that following careful consideration of matters it has decided to take no further action against Majid Haq following the incidents which lead to him leaving the Cricket Scotland party at the recent ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup.

“Mr Haq is free with immediate effect to return to his duties under his contract with Cricket Scotland.

“Cricket Scotland will be making no further comment about this matter which is now considered to be closed.”
