Annan Athletic 2 - 1 Alloa Athletic: Annan in the driving seat
ANNAN did enough to seize the initiative in this Second Division play-off semi-final, as Alloa's second-half pressure was unable to prevent a fifth successive defeat at Galabank last night.
The Recreation Park side dispensed with manager Allan Maitland at the weekend and placed senior players Brown Ferguson and Scott Walker in charge in an effort to stop the rot, but the gamble failed to bear any instant fruit. Annan took the lead with their first real sight of goal after 13 minutes as Aaron Muirhead's powerfully struck free-kick flew in off the underside of the crossbar.
Annan doubled their lead on the hour mark as Jack Steele slotted home. Alloa refused to capitulate, though, and Andrew Scott earned them a lifeline five minutes later when he bundled the ball past Summersgill.
Annan: Summersgill, Peter Watson,Neilson, Aitken, Docherty, Muirhead, Gilfillan, Steele, Steven Sloan, Harty, O'Connor. Subs: Jamieson, Macfarlane, Jardine, MacBeth, Felvus.
Alloa: Ewings, McClune, Gibson, Walker, Dunlop, McGowan, Motion, Scott, Ferguson, Lister, Noble. Subs: Robertson, Prunty, McDonald, Bloom, Smith.
