Anderson falls at first hurdle

HOT favourite Gary Anderson was sent crashing out of the Lakeside BDO World Championships after a first-round defeat to teenage qualifier Fabian Roosenbrand.

Number two seed Anderson, who had beaten the cream of both the BDO and PDC to lift the International Darts League and World Darts Trophy titles last year, lost 3-2 against the unknown 150-1 outsider from Holland. Anderson missed countless doubles against his 19-year-old opponent, who took the first set. The Scot levelled, but then missed five doubles for the third set to fall behind again. He clawed his way back to 2-2, but was again undone in the decider.

Anderson said: "The first round is just my hoodoo in this tournament. I scored well, but snatched my darts when throwing for doubles."
