American Football: Wolves continue their fine run as Blackhawks downed

EDINBURGH WOLVES kept up their winning form yesterday with a 10-6 away victory over Clyde Valley Blackhawks.

The Capital American football side came out on top after a hard-fought struggle at Wishaw Sports Centre, which saw kicker Billy Mitchell named as the Wolves' man of the Match. Not only did Mitchell's four points separate the two sides, but his punting left the Wolves with some impressive field positions.

Wolves quarterback Allan Price helped open the scoring when he found receiver Stu Galloway with a 58-yard touchdown pass just before the end of the first half. Mitchell added the extra point and later a 28-yard field goal to put Edinburgh ahead 10-0.

The Blackhawks managed a short rushing touchdown as a consolation late in the fourth quarter, but Edinburgh ran out the clock to seal the win.

And Wolves headcoach Don Edmonston paid tribute to his players' teamwork.

"Everyone really contributed and put in a great effort," he said.

"There were a couple of mistakes early on but we put those behind us and it came together.

"Our defence held the Blackhawks in place while our offence and special teams put some valuable points on the board."

The Wolves' next game will be on June 7 in Inverness against newcomers Highland Wildcats.
