Amateurs get two trips to East Lothian
TWO of the top events on the amateur calendar are heading for East Lothian next year, with the Amateur Championship and Scottish Amateur Championship being staged at Muirfield and Gullane respectively.
The R&A-run Amateur Championship, which was won by Sergio Garcia when it was last held at the same venue, in 1998, will be played on 14-19 June, while the Scottish Golf Union's flagship event will take place on 26-31 July.
The Allied Surveyors Scottish Amateur Championship was last held over Gullane No 1 in 2004, when Fife's George Murray beat Paul O'Hara on the last green in the 36-hole final.
The 2010 SGU season tees off in early April when West Kilbride hosts the Scottish Boys' Championship and includes a visit to Glasgow Gailes at the end of the following month for the Scottish Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship.
Details of a new date, venue and revised format for the Scottish Area Team Championship will be announced early in the New Year.
