Alan Pattullo: Valencia a stern test for Rangers
After a stirring second-half comeback against Motherwell on Saturday, Rangers fans with access to satellite television might have taken the chance in the evening to view the scenes from the Nou Camp as Barcelona hosted Valencia, the then leaders of La Liga.
It provided those watching from Scotland with an idea of what it takes to beat Valencia. It helps to have a midfield run by Xavi and Iniesta.
Valencia, of course, face Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday in the Champions League, and are proving that it is possible to prosper while being heavily in debt, although it is at least heading in the right direction - from e400m to a still eye-watering e250m.
Playing like would-be champions, Valencia looked hungrier, more comfortable on the ball in the first-half, and took the game to Barcelona. Unai Emery's side took a deserved lead through Pablo Hernandez, but were pegged back, losing 2-1 in the end.
After Spain graced Hampden last week, Glasgow can count itself fortunate to be blessed by the presence of a second group of fine footballers from that nation in just eight days.
