Alan Gow in contention for Motherwell bow
Motherwell manager Craig Brown has revealed Alan Gow is in line to make his debut against St Johnstone tomorrow despite his lack of match action.
The former Falkirk and Rangers forward trained on his own throughout the summer until joining Motherwell last Wednesday, after being released by Plymouth at the end of last season.
But he has impressed Brown with his fitness and shone in a closed-doors game against Clyde on Monday, which Motherwell won 1-0.
Brown, who saw off competition from the likes of Swindon and St Mirren to sign Gow, said: "I will be honest and say if we started him, and we may do, it would be quite an achievement if he lasted 90 minutes because he hasn't played for some time. But we had a closed-doors match midweek against Clyde and he played very well. So he is in contention.
"In training I can see what the attraction is to many clubs. He is a hugely talented player with wonderful close control, great skill, good vision. The only question mark is his match-fitness and we will see how he reacts after training on Friday."
Gow, 27, has something to prove in the SPL after failing to make an appearance in the competition during a two-year stay at Ibrox.
The versatile frontman struggled to make a major impact on loan at Hibs earlier this year and has until January to show Brown he is worth a longer deal. "If ever a guy has an incentive to do well, it's Alan Gow, and hopefully we will both benefit from that," added the manager.
