Airdrie United 3-0 Dundee

Airdrie United 3 McLaughlin 54; O'Carroll 60; Gemmill 75 Dundee 0

BASEMENT boys Airdrie produced one of the upsets of the season to severely dent Dundee's promotion quest.

The hosts recovered from a stale first-half display to snuff out the Dark Blues with three clinical finishes.

The Taysiders had dominated the first half – but had nothing to show for their efforts as they squandered a string of chances.

They were forced to change their line-up after just two minutes when Gary McKenzie was stretchered off with a head injury in the wake of a hefty collision with Bobby Donnelly. But the introduction of Colin Cameron didn't appear to affect them and they had by far the bulk of possession and territory.

Neat interplay featuring Gary Harkins and Ben Hutchinson set up a great opportunity for Colin McMenamin, however his strike flew over from 18 yards.

Airdrie then created a rare opening for Ricky Waddell, who watched in frustration as Craig McKeown swept away the danger.

McMenamin then went close at the other end before Hutchinson wasted another clear-cut chance when he dithered in the box.

Bryan Kerr, Andy Shinnie and Harkins all tried long-range shots in the build up to the break in vain.

Airdrie were a different outfit after the restart and they left Dundee reeling with their quick-fire one-two.

First, Scott McLaughlin's low free-kick somehow bounced over the diving body of Rab Douglas.

Then the ex-Scotland keeper was helpless as Alan Troughton's feed was poked in by Diarmuid O'Carroll.

And any prospect of a Dundee fight-back was wrecked when Scott Gemmill pounced for the killer third.
