Adams finally gets his man as Pennant joins Pompey

WINGER Jermaine Pennant has agreed to join Portsmouth on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season.

Pennant, who had been linked with a number of clubs, including Celtic and Real Madrid, was expected to move to Pompey last week, after the clubs agreed terms for a player signed by the Reds for 6.7million from Birmingham in July 2006.

The 26-year-old was subsequently reported to prefer to stay at Anfield, but Portsmouth revealed on their official website that they have got their man after all.

Manager Tony Adams said: “I’ve known him for a long time. We were together at Arsenal a long, long time ago. He was the new kid on the block and a very exciting prospect.”

Meanwhile, Wilson Palacios has undergone a medical ahead of his proposed transfer from Wigan to Tottenham for a fee of around 14 million.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy agreed a price over the weekend for the 24-year-old before personal terms were negotiated. It is understood that Palacios had reservations about moving to London from the north west, where he was settled, but has agreed to the transfer.
