Hearts would be Dane stupid to let Killie defeat panic us

AFTER three defeats in four matches there may be a tendency for knee-jerk reactions at Hearts, but Mike Tullberg has cautioned against such a response. The Dane believes no-one should "lose the head" following Saturday's home defeat by Kilmarnock.
Tullberg looked confident if slightly short of match sharpness on his home debut. His guile and physical presence troubled the visiting defence but could not provide Hearts with victory, as a late Craig Bryson goal ended a 100 per cent home record.

Whilst he was understandably deflated, Tullberg stressed today that the two-week break from domestic duties is an opportunity not to be missed; a chance to right some wrongs ahead of the now pivotal Edinburgh derby against Hibs on Sunday week. "You can say this is a test or you can say it's not a test but it is difficult. We have to find ourselves and concentrate," Tullberg explained to the Evening News. "We can't go losing our heads about this. Of course we are disappointed because we lost at home, that is not good enough.

"Everybody is disappointed. It should be like that when you lose. The manager said it's easier to stay together when everything is good and you win the games.

"Now we have lost twice in two weeks and it's more difficult. However, we can't go around being disappointed for two weeks, we have to look to the next match.

"We are a very young team and, when you are winning, you would say the break is not good. Now we have lost our last two games, maybe it will be good for us to talk about things. I don't know if it's good or bad, I guess we will see in two weeks' time.

"We have to stand up as a team, we have to show we can overcome this. We are not far from third place so it's important not to forget what the guys did in the early matches."

He may only have managed two competitive appearances so far, but Tullberg already seems in tune with manager Csaba Laszlo's insistence on togetherness. Shouldering collective responsibility is a request the Hungarian would himself endorse whilst striving to revitalise his squad during the international break.

"We had two chances against Kilmarnock to make it 2-1 but we should not blame anybody for not scoring," continued Tullberg. "We had the chances and ended up with nothing, that's not good enough.

"Three points were the most important and we didn't get them because we lost concentration in the last few minutes.

"We were going for the win but, instead of getting three points or even one, we ended up with none.

"The first half was one big mess with both teams just playing long balls. That is not our tactic and I think we changed it at the beginning of the second half.

"If we are going to play the ball in the air, it must go higher because if it's a direct ball not so far off the ground it's difficult to control. Higher balls can be shot on the volley. I think I only lost one or two balls in the second half but I lost a lot before that. We should not try long balls, we should try to play."

Tullberg is now free of the muscle injury which precluded him from Hearts' opening matches of the season. The timing of his return transpired as unfortunate, coinciding with back-to-back defeats against Dundee United and Kilmarnock and a slide to fifth place in the SPL. Laszlo is relying on the striker to add a cutting edge to his side, though.

Signed on a season-long loan from Reggina, his play at times offered a different dimension to Hearts' attack against Kilmarnock.

It was his clever reverse pass which initiated the move for Larry Kingston's equalising goal in the first half and the initial signs are that his presence and mobility will trouble most Scottish defences this season.

"I have been away a long time. Some things I'm satisfied with, some things I'm not satisfied with," said Tullberg.

"I made an assist for the goal, so that is one positive. I had some headers for Miko and Jamie but generally I want to win more headers.

"You only get your timing for headers by playing. Overall I was just disappointed to lose. We have two weeks now to improve and hopefully win the next game."

Tullberg will feature regularly on the Riccarton training fields during the international break as he strives to hone the finer aspects of his game.

By the time Hearts cross Edinburgh for the derby engagement with Hibs, he intends on being fully primed and ready to fully endear himself to the Tynecastle support.

"I want to satisfy the supporters and I just have to get playing and work on my timing. Some of my play was okay, some of it not okay. You only improve by playing.

"I'm not unsatisfied with myself but I'm not completely satisfied either. I feel I'm improving every day. Personally, it's good for me to have two weeks to work on my game.

"I could already feel in the second half on Saturday that I was winning more headers than the first half. That's because you have the timing and know when to jump. Of course, I have to get to know my team-mates as well so the two-week break is a positive thing for me."

It should be used similarly by Hearts, offering the chance to regroup and prepare for a gargantuan effort against their biggest rivals.

Soul-searching is one thing, but losing the head is quite another. Tullberg knows which option is best.

This is probably the laziest headline writing I've ever seen. Talk about trying to shoe-horn a pun in, regardless of relevance.

This whole 'physical presence thing regarding Tullberg... Are people talking about a different player to me as i don't exactly think he is in the mould of a Jankauskas or a De Vries... mickey is bigger than he is. i am actually hoping he is more of a crafty player anyway as we are not too bad off for carthorses and target men just now. Perhaps Tullberg and Nade would be a good shout?

Think he must start with Tullberg and Nade,Mole was murder at the weekend tries his hardest and his work rate is not in question but he is not good enough to start yet

Rap Up Tullberg.
You've not had to suffer as we have, week in week out, season after season.
Drastic changer ARE urgently required, because some of the spuds that are wearing Hearts shirts right now are dire.
Tullberg and Nade on from the start at San Giro.
Karipidis alongside Berra.
A midfield of Kingston, Stewart, Palazuelos and Driver.
If Laszlo sticks with one up front, then get that Polish geezer into a 5 man midfield.
We've seen enough of the choobs, lets get down to serious business Csaba, and stop following the party line.

Definitely, Mole was never going to score there at the weekend, PLEASE GIVE GLEN A SHOT IN THE DERBY!!!

I think we should start with Nade and Tullberg in the derby and bring Glen of the bench... I think he is a cert to score against the Hobos, can't explain it... Just seems written in the stars to me.

We used four stikers at different times on Saturday and i counted one shot between them and that was miles off target from Tullberg simply not good enough

Nade and Glen to start for the derby!

Nade to push the hibs defense around and Glen to use his pace to run at them!

However i'm sure we'll see another 4-4-1-1 with Mole up front left cuelly exposed by Audrey... CVsaba won't alter the squad except to drop Thomson for Jonsson and the possible inclusion of Obua on the left at the expense of Miko... with Driver on the bench!!!

I bet we start with the same team we did against Utd apart from the inclusion of Obua if he's fit... that'll do wonders for the fans confidence!

#11 And what were you lot saying just before the transfer window opened? We're donald ducked if we don't bring in deeks! So who's relying on who now? It amazes me how the hibs fans were all over petrie and mixu and now that Rearend is back they've all backed off as if the world is wonderful again - talk about easily pleased

Complete rubbish Tullberg. Hearts fans have suffered 3 years of feeble performances and broken promises from Moronov, not just 3 weeks.

All good comments above. Somebody has decided Glen won't get a chance. Somebody has decided Miko starts every game, again. Somebody has decided to play one up front, again. Is is Laszlo? Of course not.

#15 Someone has decided Glen won't start - aye, the manager - because he's not fit. Miko every game - didn't start the first 3 or at Hamilton? One up front - Mole is our only fit striker. Nade is obviously not fit, Tullberg is just back from injury, Glen was suspended at the beginning of the season and has had a niggling injury, Makela is utter garbage and should never wear the shirt again, Audrey isn't a striker so who do you want up front with mole? Miko - no, then he'd be starting! Honestly, any time a Hearts fan isn't happy with what's going on - blame Vlad. Also, why do Hearts fans expect us to be winning all our games right from the off? Do most new managers not take some time to get used to the way the game is played and get used to new players? His two signing haven't been fit so he's working with last season's dross and at least he's getting more positive performances and better results than last season out of them.

And now for the real story. Mad Vlad bank stock took another p!ss pounding on the dodgy Baltic Stock Exchange again today (who's didn't?). Closing down another 13%. But that's a little deceptive because it opened lower than it closed on Monday. At just 1.14 in Lithuanian funny money that's dangerously close to falling into penny stock range.
Big, big volume as the high rollers took over from the punters. Vlad's market makers didn't stand a chance.
Should Banderson be told?
Or should he be allowed to slumber in his Tyncastle delusional dream world?

Newcastle Jambo,

#17 No, Vic that's true. He was suspended after his normal cameo of coming and running about like a headless chicken on acid against Rangers with the usual red card as a result.

#16 Do you NOT blame Vlad at all for the fact that our squad is so poor? Transfer fees were supposed to be no option, titles within 3 years etc etc

Of course I don't expect Hearts to win every game but the performances, selections and tactics have been poor this season so far, even when they have won.

I can't believe that people were saying yesterday when I reminded them that we have been used to being 3rd for much of the past 20+ years and enjoyed 3rd place finishes in 3 out of 4 seasons under Levein that we had to suffer terrible football then. Firstly, I'd take that if it gets results and secondly - 5-1 against Hibs? Some great Euro results? Compared to what 1 up front, a handful of shots at goal in each game AND poor results?

You just hope for progress. I suppose we are not in the relagation zone this season so it's an improvement on last season.

#19 He was indeed suspended after the Rangers game - although another harsh booking. Especially if you compare it to Mr Broadfoots outragous dive - similar to the one he did in the box in the last minute against St Mirren but that's another story!
Yes i do blame Vlad for what you mention - he lead us down the garden path but that's not what you were originaly pointing out. I'm defending Csaba because i believe he's in charge of the team just now. I think he's working things out - slowly i admit - but he hasn't had the chance to field his best team yet.
I'm with you on what you said yesterday but at the moment all we can look for is progress from last season. I don't see the point in harping on about the last 20 years - what good will that do? We also had some poor seasons in the middle of our good ones in the last 20 years so i'm going to accept that we can't expect third place. We have to fight for it and i believe that Csaba will get that out of the current players. Until i get some proof that Csaba isn't in charge of the team, i'll give him my full backing as i would give any new manager - i don't think 8 games is enough time.

That is the worst headline I have ever seen! It's even lamer than Hearts performances recently!

Infact it's probably as much as we deserve! Everybody seems to be like that knight in Monty Python and the holy grail - the one who's still game for a fight despite having both his arms and legs cuts off!

We'll finish about 9th I reckon! There's just no fight about Hearts these days! We had a couple of decent results early doors, but that makes 4 wins and 4 defeats from the first 8 games and that sort of form is gontae win us nothing!

I hope I'm well wrong of course, but something in these old Jambo bones of mine tells me I won't me far wrong by the end of the season!

#16 I completely agree with a lot of what you say! Where is Glen for instance? But remember Burley got off to a flyer with a new squad, but I do agree that Laszlo has a whole different set of problems!

I'm not too confident of anything this season! We could even lose local bragging rights to the Hobos in a couple of weeks and then there's Celtic to come too!

The Kilmarnock game was crucial for confidence before the international break and the tough matches that are to come - WE SHOULD HAVE WON IT QUITE FRANKLY!

I'm more at home on the political threads, but last night I heard a rumour from someone in the pub (who heard it from someone else on "good authority") that Romanov's Yukky Bank's in serious trouble.

I'm a Hearts' fan myself, but of the anti Romanov camp, and wonder if the tick is about to go tock.

#25 Well if you someone you met in a pub tells you something that he heard from someone else - who heard it " on good authority " then it must be true!

Still if it is true then all the " Tick tock" brigades predictions weren't true after all as it's taken a MAJOR WORLD FINANCIAL CRISIS to bring down Vlad and Hearts!

If HMFC survive then all the doubters can go do one, because despite all we will have managed to survive the worst economic crisis in a generation!

I'm more at home taking on football threads by the way - Like most of the folk on here too!

#27 - Let's hope it's true, Tam!

But, as others have pointed out, Vlad's bank is only a part of the UBIG empire. A significant part, perhaps, but not necessarily the be-all & end-all.

If Romanov IS feeling the pinch, however, I just hope it spurs him on to looking for a buyer for the club as i think it's obvious now that he has lost interest in building a team capable of winning trophies.
