Published Date: 08 October 2008
HEARTS were yesterday handed a timely boost after long-term injury absentee Robbie Neilson returned to training.
The 28-year-old former Scotland international has failed to kick a competitive ball this term following surgery on his ankle in pre-season.

But Neilson, who last featured for Hearts on 5 April, has been making steady progress and took his rehab a
further step forward when he began running again.

The defender was put through his paces at the club's Riccarton training base and providing he suffers no reaction will continue to improve his strength as he eyes a first-team return perhaps even next month.

The news is a lift for manager Csaba Laszlo following back-to-back SPL defeats that have seen Hearts slip to fifth place ahead of the Edinburgh derby at Easter Road on 19 October.

Neilson, however, faces a battle to regain his place with both Jason Thomson and Eggert Jonsson deputising at right-back in his absence.

Laszlo, meanwhile, has refused to rule out signing former Tynecastle full-back Alan Maybury.

However, the Hungarian admits he is unable to act in the transfer market until he discusses plans for the January transfer window with majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov.

The unattached Maybury has been training with Hearts to keep up his fitness and the Irishman claims he would love to sign for the club again.

But Laszlo said: "At the moment, it is not a question for me whether Alan will come in the team or not.

"Maybe in the winter break, when the transfer window is open, we will see what we can do. We must have a concrete plan and this plan must be between me and the club. The owner and the club must make a decision so I'm not thinking about this."

Maybury spent the second half of last season at Aberdeen after leaving Leicester.

But the 30-year-old did not take up a longer-term offer from the Dons as he wanted to return to England. However, he arranged to train with his former club after a move to Crystal Palace fell through.

"I loved my time at Hearts and to go back would be great," said Maybury. "My agent is speaking to a few other clubs at the same time. I need to keep my fitness up until someone says 'you'll do for me'."

I turned to the sports pages, after reading the finacial articles this morning, in the hope of finding something coming out of Tynie to lift my spirits!
I'm going back to the money pages, this stuff is far too depressing.
If this news is what Hearts fans have been waiting on, if this is viewed as a "plus" by the management,we are worse than I thought we were.

Enjoy the break & wind yourself up for the Derby.... for sure if we win that suddenly all OK

#8 CJ, either it's not scorchio (maybe he's the latest victim of this real-life version of 'invasion of the bodysnatchers') or he's just sick to the back gnashers of the pesh we have to watch.

you're right though, a win vs the hobos would certainly be a shot in the arm for the long suffering jambos.

#7 What's this we read about all you touchy Rangers' fans eh?

"An ITV spokeswoman confirmed that following "dozens" of complaints, they had changed the script for a forthcoming episode. [of Coronation Street]

Gray's character Tony Gordon said: "I could no more be interested in Rosie Webster than I could support Glasgow Rangers."

The ITV spokeswoman said that the line seemed "to have caused some upset".

And one of the character's lines in a future episode - reported to be a remark that he was allergic to "warm beer, the English national anthem and Glasgow Rangers" - has now been dropped."

Didn't know bears had such thin skins.

Anyway, back to the story and it's good to see Robbie well on the road to recovery. I know he has his limitations but he's always given 100% for the cause and his long throws are feature we've missed recently. Reliable if not spectacular.

#Vic... not sure what News scorchio(or his clone) was expecting. Considering or not considering Maybury is hardly a reason to get too excited.

Biggest issue for me is how you corelate NADE's lack of match fitness with not playing him for the reserves. Beyond my compression.

who was expected to win between rioters and st.mingin?
who was expected to win between rioters and kaunas?

Mornin Guys, Just a quick post Re Gary Glen

Do Not expect Glen back playing in the near future. In fact do not be suprised if he has played his last game for us.

According to someone who was at Tynecastle last night for a Q & A with Csaba, Stewart and McLean & Booth from Celtanta plus around 150 fans. Csaba is not Happy with Glen and was quoted as saying "he has a pathetic attitude and will be sold from the club if he doesnt change" and commented on the reserve game saying "his attitide is a disgrace"

So its looking very much like Gary Glen wont be playing for us anymore.

Other things mentionted were Csaba is looking to sign 4/5 players in January

Csaba speaks to Stewart a lot re tactics and the players he also speaks to Berra and Zali. They act like a players spokespeople

Stewart seeminly got up in front of whoe dressing room and apoligised for the Killie defeat.

What gets me about this, is why single Glen out to have a bad attitude i could name a lot more whose attitude is appalling yet they still play the following week
18

VictorianGorgie,

08/10/2008 09:55:33
#23 GF, was just thinking the same thing. it's not great if he's picking on easy targets when it comes to things like that, leaving alone bigger characters and egos. he wont get any respect from the players if he adopts a selective policy when it comes to man management.

there could very well be a lot more to it of course, maybe the lad has said things out of place or been moaning about things behind his back which csaba has since found out about... something like that.

there could also be unwanted influence from other quarters...

Is this good news or not then guys? From what I have read/seen of him he's, erm, not the most technically gifted player but always gives 100%. Would you have him in against Riordan?

And as for Corrie having to change their script, ffs. Absolutely pathetic. If it was a United fan saying same about Liverpool would there be any complaints? As Tony Gordon would say, "What a bunch of jessies." ( the missus watches it, honest )

#28: sorry but Maybury can play both(did regularly play LB for Hearts)
#27: think the world of Robbie but lets just say he will not be match fit so we will not need to consider him marking(!!) Riordan.

GARY GLEN: played v St mirren reserves & his attitude/performance(on the park) looked fine to me(Not sure but never actually seen CSABA at the games). However no reason for Hearts to isolate him for no reason. Young boy hope the penny drops as the best forward we have produced since ROBBO.
##young robinson also seems to have dissapeared from the radar.realise only 16 but after his(brief) debut thought he would be a regular in 19's.Is templeton on loan as another one not featuring?

Morning Guys, thought Id comment before it starts to get silly later on with more financial experts such as the illiustrious Neil Waugh and Tommy Tommy making their analysis on Heart yet again.

I would welcome back Robbie to the team. No he's not a gifted player technically, but we are talking about the SPL after all. He always gives his very best and he has remained loyal to the club. Can't fault the guy for that. He played really well under Burley and then his form dipped and I hope under Csaba, he can regain confidence, get his first team place back and start knocking on the international door again.

23 & 24 - I don't know the exact context but surly if asked a direct question regarding a player ie "Why hasn't Glen featured more this season?" he should be allound to give a direct answer regarding that player?
26

27

VictorianGorgie,

#31, of course. i think the point is that he appears to have divulged that there may be an attitude problem with the player. there are others (the likes of kingston) who haven't shown the best attitude at times.

i would hope he isn't going to pick on an easy target like glen to crack down on while letting others swan about scot free.

Addie,

Since we are all chatting about football for a change - I want to know why Nade hasnt regained fitness as TOTT mentioned. This has gone on far too long for my liking and he is a professional athelete after all.

Glen should be in the team when fit, no question he is the best we've produced since Robbo and he is the one with the most potential from the current crop. Surprised attitude is being blamed here, IMO you can't fault the guys attitude or application, trains hard and always puts in a shift. Not sure how this one will pan out.
32

VictorianGorgie,

#34 addie, i know that he was spotted in a city centre club/restaurant during last midweek. he was supposedly in the restaurant area.

it's feasible he was nibbling on some mixed salad leaves and drinking carrot juice, but then again....

maybe no, innit?

Ok so drop Glen and replace with Tullberg... I have read a couple of posts re: Glen's attitude etc and we may not see him again!

Bring back Clum... if he continues his goalscoring form?
34

Addie,

08/10/2008 10:38:31
Glen the best since Robbo?

Come on guys! How many games has he played? Are we not getting carried away here? He is a young lad with much to learn. Yes he is probably the better of our striking options but to suggest that a young lad who came on at the end of last season and scored a few goals against bottom 6 teams, but seriously are we not putting a whole lot of pressure on the guys shoulders? I remember we were all looking to Clum to be the next best thing when he broke through and looked what happened. Dont get me wrong I really like Glen, but I dont want the demand for him to be so much and then when he fails to deliver a couple of goals on his first team return and starts getting boos from the stands - and that will happen. Basically I dont want Glen to be another Elliot. Break him in gently and see what happens.

I think Csaba saying He is not happy with him, that he is not happy with Glens attitude is a direct answer. or as direct as you could want. I wouldnt expect him to go into finer details about it. He has an attitude problem thats that.

Addie,

Agree, Glen plays a few games and he's being billed as the best since Robbo. No Way could name a few other strikers we have had since Robbo, Glen couldnt lace their boots. Not Yet anyway, and whos to say he ever could, A few games does not make you a great player,
38

Rolland,

08/10/2008 10:46:28
Agree about Clum if he keeps scoring lets get him back, notice he got red carded on Saturday, but has banged in a few goals so far.

Addie,

#43 The scary thing is Hearts are so desperate for a striker that I keep thinking why not play Kostadinov? My reason - cos his surname is the same as the guy who banged them in for fun at Porto. Desperation is terrible thing I suppose so Im not mocking those who want Glen in the starting line up btw.

re: gary glen , talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face , c'mon csaba waking up the boy has the ability and confidence in himself to do a job that most strikers in the 'first team' so feckin obviously can't. Nade should have been punted ages ago for an attitude unbefitting a 'professional footballer' . So why the f@@@ is he allowed anywhere near tynecastle !!
41

Talk o' the Toun,

08/10/2008 10:57:28
GLEN: best prospect since Robbo as opposed to the best forward .

world of a difference guys.

Either way time to accept IMO (what we already know) that nade/mole/mackela /audry would not get a game for any other SPL team.too early to comment on tullberg. Sort Glen out and get him in the team before our season collapses(would rather see MIKO upfront than any of aforementioned)

FFS i told scorchio to stop mumping!
42

DalryJambo,

Edinburgh 08/10/2008 11:40:06
41: I agree completely. Hopefully a public dressing down for Glen will spur him on and improve his attitude. I can’t understand why Casba would say something like that for the sake of it.
I’ve been to all the home games this season and the only player I would say hasn’t always given 100% is Kingston. Others have been rubbish, but do appear to be trying (very trying).
Maybe he thinks you need to deal with different characters in different ways. I can’t remember which manager it was, but I saw a documentary about a team/manager and he basically said football management was as much about man management as football coaching. Some players need a kick up the backside, others you need to be more understanding. I suppose the point in appointing a manager is that you trust his judgement when dealing with these issues.
Managers do things in different ways and this can pull players together or split them apart. I remember people saying some players didn’t like playing under Glenn Hoddle as he gave the impression to everyone that he thought he was still the best player amongst the squad and would tell people how they should pass/cross/shot by demonstrating how he would do it. This just pi$$ed everyone off and generally he was still able to outperform the players!!! On the other hand José Mourinho and Martin O’Neil seem to bond players together and get the most out of them.
Let’s hope Casba is given a fair crack at getting the best out of all the players in the squad.
43

Jim Baxter,

Alicante 08/10/2008 13:52:55
No35 CBJambo, why do you spoil your good team by putting that waster NADE in your line up?? How many goals has he scored since he arrived at Hearts? I think it is one, in England he managed the grand total in a Season of 8 He is a total waste of money and who ever brought him to Tynecastle should be shot.
