A LABOUR MSP has claimed that the Scottish Government has torn up its pledge to introduce free swimming for children.
The SNP's manifesto ahead of the last Holyrood election said that "children will be given free, year-round access to council swimming pools". But in a letter to an MSP, sports minister Shona Robison said it was "entirely" down to local councils whet
her youngsters got free entry to pools.

Labour's sports spokesman Frank McAveety said: "I am appalled Shona Robison has torn up the SNP's manifesto pledge to provide children with free access to council pools. We need to give youngsters the opportunity to take part in sport, regardless of their family's income."

Ms Robison wrote in a letter to Labour's Helen Eadie, published yesterday, that the government believed in the benefits of swimming, but added: "It is entirely a matter for individual local authorities, taking into account individual needs and priorities."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Government said councils were responsible for about 90 per cent of spending on sport in Scotland.

She added: "Many local authorities in Scotland already provide free admission to public swimming pools for targeted groups, and we have clear ambitions to go further."

As I have said on many occasions, the SNP have little or no interest in our Children, from Schools to 'Swimming-pools', they have let our Children down badly, not much to be said then, when one day our Children become our Voters, Would you Vote for the SNP?
I think Not!
It all Speaks,...'Scottish Mountains!

The SNP are probably too busy sorting out the utter mess Labour has left behind.

I am no great fan of the SNP but they are a breath of fresh air compared with the disgusting, corrupt Labour party.

Labour would probably have banned swimming if it were up to them !

I will certainly NOT vote Labour in spite of all the attempts by the press to spin in their favour.
I see the Nats have won another council seat in Inverclyde, that was unheard of in years gone by.
People there would have voted in a Monkey if it wore a Labour rosette.
Labour are in danger of disappearing because they don't really have any real policies so they are limited to talking about Kindergarden issues like this.
BTW I'm not a nat but I don't agree with free swimming, cheap swimming , yes but not free.

The Nationalist Government has certainly failed to meet its election pledge.

However, it is hardly earth-shattering.

How about the 50 MPs, including Labour Cabinet Minsters, and Tory Shadow Minsters, who over-claimed on their Council Tax, anything between £500 and £6,000
over a 4 year period!

The phantom claims totalled £68,457! (Daily Telegraph)!

Obviously Alexey's little tadpoles require no swimming pool, and he needs to make a lot of noise due to his inadequate cake stand.

I'm quite happy paying for the Kid's swimming, that way we get more clear water to actually swim in.
It's only £1 anyway for kids.
