Scotland’s clan chiefs to declare neutral stance on referendum
NEWS: The Daily Telegraph reports that The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs is to outline a neutral stance in the referendum debate.
The group will release a statement tomorrow outlining a clear position on the debate, with clan leaders keen to stay out of the political battle ahead of the September vote.
The body which represents some of Scotland’s most influential clan chiefs will declare its neutrality over independence.
The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs (SCSC) is to release a message on Tuesday which makes "clear" it will not pick a side ahead of the September 18 vote.
Its decision to remain neutral is significant given its link to Scotland’s national identity and the central role patriotism has played in the independence debate.
