Published Date: 20 August 2008
SIR Sean Connery has revealed how Labour MPs tried to block his knighthood because of his support for the SNP, it was reported today.
In his memoirs, being serialised, Sir Sean says the proposal for him to be knighted had been rejected by then Scottish Secretary Donald Dewar because of his long-standing support of the Nationalists.

Former Labour minister Peter Mandelson later called the Edinburgh-born actor to say there had been a "misunderstanding" and he was eventually knighted in July 2000.

Mr Connery also revealed his initial critical view of the new Scottish Parliament building was soon replaced by admiration for what he branded a "remarkable complex of buildings" at Holyrood.

In his book, he writes how he became interested in politics in the mid-Sixties.

He "revealed" this, did he? Despite the fact that he couldn't possibly be aware of the discussions behind the scenes since the first a recipient of an honour hears is when they have been invited to accept it?

So Connery is simply regurgitating newspaper speculation of the time. How pointless of him.

I thought that the reason why there was disquiet about Sean Connery getting a knighthood was to do with his long held and widely reported views that he didn't think there was anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman - although he didn't recommend doing it in the same way that one would hit a man.

"An open-handed slap is justified, if all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning. If a woman is a bitch, or hysterical, or bloody-minded continually, then I'd do it," he was reported to have said. And apparently he did, as his former wife testified in her memoirs.

Unbelievable...to support a club as non progressive to the point of complicity...Mo Johnson not being that many moons ago for example. BUT WHAT IS WORSE IS THE READERSHIP NOT PICKING UP ON THIS! New generations of immigrants have suffered because of otherwise intelligent
Scots not speaking out when acts of wanton bigotry have been imposed on the Irish Scots community. The man ain't a fool but has a twisted concept of nationalism. His dangerous desire to be associated with equally lunatic nationalistic organisations that still, to this day linger round The Death Star with no sense of shame is proof enough of the mans lack of understanding that we are all born as equals. Shame on you Sean and shame on Scotland for confusing sectarianism with racist anti immigrant institutionalized evil! Please, please ladies and gentlemen of the press expose the man for what he is...careful ladies as you may get a slap!

There's been quite a few of these silly "Sir Sean" stories recently - has he moved back to Scotland?

#5 - thankfully no. He's just got a book out that he's trying to hawk at the moment.
Obviously he doesn't want to take any of his own tax-haven cash out for advertising, so the Evening News are doing it for him for free.

Super Sean is right about the parliament buildings being remarkable, as in remarkably ugly, remarkably expensive, remarkably a waste of cash, remarkably ill situated, remarkably conducive to negative thoughts......
I could go on.

In what films has Sean Connery starred in the past 20 years that have actually been any good? The last one of which I'm aware would have to be "The Untouchables".

Why would a Scottish nationalist want a Knighthood from a foreign Queen? This is the same natinoalist who is a tax exile from Scotland, now living in Spain. He has also revealed that he has changed his allegiance from Celtic to Rangers.....WHAU? Strange coming from a man who was born 200yards from Tynecastle. It is obvious that this man's "HEART'S" in the wrong place. In short, the man is a complete fraud.
AWAY WITH HIM!

# Interesting a natioanlist living in Spain. do you think he would support independence for Catalonia and the Basque region?
Incidentally why do ETA work only in buildings with multiple doorways? A: You should never put all your Basques in one exit.

The usual Scottish inane and semi-literate, moaning mental midgets are alive and well here and coming out of the gutter to attack Sean Connery for actually bettering himself and being one of the best ambassadors Scotland has ever had. Born of envy and feelings of inadequacy they chunter on with their ignorant abuse. One apparently mentally crippled ex-cop from New Jersey actually thinks of himself as a defender of the fair sex; one wonders who wears the pants in that household.

And who is "Milo Spav" when he's at home? One of these odd Scots the Germans referred to as "poisoned dwarfs" one would imagine.

Get a life, boys (and I use that last word advisedly). See if you can try to at least partly be a man like Sean Connery. We all know it will be difficult for you as you swill your beer, fall down drunk, and swear and bawl your sectarian filth at football matches.
