Accused in court as bottle attack victim fights for life

A COMPANY director was remanded in custody yesterday charged with attempted murder following a bottle attack at a celebrity-packed party held by smartphone firm BlackBerry.

Ashley Charles, 25, is accused of smashing the makeshift weapon into the neck of another guest at Pulse nightclub in Southwark, in central London, on Tuesday night.

Brit award-winning singer Jessie J had been performing at the party before the bloody brawl and spoke of her shock on Twitter.

The 37-year-old victim, a married father-of-two, is in a critical condition in hospital, where medics had to operate on his skull to remove pressure from a brain injury.

Charles, of Nevanthon Road, Leicester, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth when he appeared in the dock at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court yesterday. An application for bail was refused.
