Heriot’s 37-5 Boroughmuir

Heriot’s stepped up their challenge for a top-four finish and plunged Edinburgh rivals Boroughmuir deeper into the relegation mire with a bonus-point win in an entertaining derby that drew an attendance of around 2,500, writes Colin Renton at Goldenacre.

The result was reward for the home side’s determination to play expansive rugby. With 18 minutes gone, they opened their account when Colin Goudie raced into the ‘Muir 22 and the recycled ball was spun wide to Brian Morrissey who released Jason Hill to score. Graham Wilson converted via the post then booted a long-range penalty to extend his side’s lead.

‘Muir cut the deficit when Jamie Swanson picked up at a close-range scrum and dived over for the final score of the half.

Wilson landed a penalty five minutes after the restart, then Michael Maltman sprinted in for the second Heriot’s touchdown. And the hosts underlined their superiority when Mike Penn darted between two defenders for a try, converted by Wilson, then CJ Osazuwa raced over to join him on the score sheet and Goudie bagged a final converted score.
