Gossman brothers hit Hillhead for six

THE GOSSMAN brothers got a total of six tries as Ayr defeated Hillhead/Jordanhill 55-5 at Hughenden in the RBS West Regional Cup, writes Gary Heatly.

The victory leaves them top of Group A ahead of Tuesday’s rearranged match with Ardrossan Accies. Captain Calum Forrester got things going early with a converted try before Nick Cox drove over the line and Finn Russell again converted.

Craig Gossman, above, added the third Ayr try and, at half-time, they were 19-0 to the good.

Murray McConnell and Gossman again then went over before the latter’s brother Kerr marked his return from injury with his side’s sixth try.

Kerr grabbed his second before Craig completed his hat-trick. The sixth, seventh and eighth tries came with Hillhead/Jordanhill’s David Armstrong in the sin-bin. Ex-Ayr player Blair McPherson then got the hosts’ only try of the afternoon before Kerr Gossman finished things off with his hat-trick try.

Elsewhere in the West section Cartha Queens Park saw off Dalziel 38-12 and Glasgow Hawks beat Dumfries 47-0.

In the RBS Edinburgh Regional Cup Stewart’s Melville gave top flight Heriot’s a shock before losing out.

The home side raced into a 15-0 lead with three tries before the Goldenacre side fought back to win 32-18.

Musselburgh 59-24 at Raeburn Place, while Currie won 29-10 at Biggar and Boroughmuir defeated Murrayfield Wanderers 46-7.
