DUNDEE gained full and ample revenge for a late defeat in Wales last week in the British and Irish Cup, writes Jack Nixon at Mayfield.

The win was the first of the campaign for the Taysiders. “I am thrilled for the guys, and in particular those players,” said head coach Ian Rankin.

Dundee called most of the shots in a frenzied affair, strewn with penalties awarded by referee Andrew Jackson. And yet the home side scored three fine tries against a stuffy Quins side who managed two of their own. Duncan Weir opened the scoring with a 12th-minute penalty, followed immediately by one from Quins full back Jack Maynard before his opposite Brandyn Laursen ran in a well worked move for Weir to convert.

Stand-off James Dixon scored a late first-half try which was converted by the immaculate 
Maynard to tie the scores up at the break.

Two early tries in the pulsating second half from winger James Fleming and Ritchie Hawkins seemed to have put Dundee in easy street, only for Quins to hit back with a converted effort from flanker Ellis Lloyd followed by two penalties.

Dundee were not to be denied, hitting back with Weir’s late kick to win.
