Currie 12 - 12 Boroughmuir: Muir and Currie inseparable as they do battle in driving rain
Currie and Boroughmuir battled out a draw in wet conditions and credit must go to the Currie volunteers, and in particular ground manager Ivor Santer, who put in a lot of hard work in the hours leading up to kick-off to get the pitch playable after torrential downpours overnight.
The visitors started strongly and after some good yards made by their big ball carriers, such as No.8 Jamie Swanson, they grabbed the game’s first try after just four minutes.
The scorer was second-row Greig Scott with the conversion attempt by stand-off Ali Warnock just missing.
Currie then had a spell of pressure before they lost hooker Fergus Scott to injury after just 12 minutes of the match.
Full-back Jamie Forbes then missed a penalty six minutes later as the hosts remained scoreless.
They did get points on the board in the 23rd minute when a lovely cross-field kick by stand-off Gregor Hunter set up a try.
The deft kick was collect-ed by centre James Johnstone and his inside pass to Dougie Fife, pictured, saw the winger go in for the score, converted by Forbes.
Eight minutes before the interval, Boroughmuir got back in front when some great defence in Currie’s half saw the ball go loose and the Meggetland men took full advantage.
Eventually the ball was shipped left with Scott going over for his second try of the day, with Warnock converting.
They led 12-7 at the interval with the rain now swirling around and the ball doing a good impression of a bar of soap.
Scott’s eventful afternoon continued in the 45th minute when he was yellow carded for Muir.
They held out well while he was off, but in the 61st minute Fife went in at the corner for his second try and, with the conversion attempt unsuccessful, the sides were tied at 12-12.
Despite both teams’ best efforts that was the way it finished.
All the players involved in the action deserve credit for battling away in the poor conditions with bottom club Muir happier with a draw than their hosts.
