Boroughmuir 26 - 27 Aberdeen Grammar

Aberdeen Grammar got a crucial victory in dramatic circumstances in this battle of two struggling sides, writes Gary Heatly at Meggetland.

Hooker Sean O’Connor grabbed the winning try and Alex Hagart converted late on.

The hosts took the lead through a penalty from Ali Warnock after a minute before Grammar scored the first try 11 minutes later. It was a converted effort from Peceli Nacamavuto, the centre beating some poor tackling.

After Warnock’s second penalty reduced the arrears to a point Grammar grabbed their second try. This time it was Tony McGuiness going over with young Hagart again converting.

Warnock then kicked a third penalty before ’Muir’s Greig Scott was sin-binned, but, while he was off, it was the Edinburgh side who scored. Mark Hare went over after a slick move and it was converted to give them the half-time advantage at 16-14.

Two penalties by the impressive Hagart gave the visitors a 20-16 lead with a quarter of the match remaining before ’Muir scored two tries. First, replacement back Sep Visser touched down over and then, with Grammar’s Murray Douglas in the sin-bin, replacement forward Robin Hislop barged over.

Grammar had the final say, though, as O’ Connor crossed and Hagart held his nerve for the winning kick.
