Aberdeen GSFP 38-32 Heriot’s: Aberdeen smash out of relegation zone

ABERDEEN Grammar smashed out of the relegation zone with sizzling performance from their pack who were too much for a gallant Heriot’s side.

“Our front row did the business,” was the simple view of Kevin Wyness, the Grammar forwards coach.

Right from the kick off the Aberdeen side were on a mission of survival, taking the play to the heart of the Heriot’s defence, but for all their pressure were only able to turn round 14-7 at half-time. Indeed had Graham Wilson kicked two first-half penalties it could have been a different game.

The home touchdowns came from No.8 Cam Eyre and the home side’s all-action hooker Sean O’Connor, both of which were converted by stand-off Alex Hagart, while his opposite number Rory Carmichael kept the Edinburgh side in the game with a try of his own with Wilson adding the conversion.

The hectic second 40 minutes saw Grammar push further ahead through tries from their irrepressible Tony McGinness, full-back Steven Aitken, a second for Eyre, and a final effort from Hagart who converted his own try.

Heriots’ scores came from lock CJ Oswazua who collected two tries, while Wilson kicked a penalty and a conversion, but not enough to keep his side in serious contention for a top-four place.
