Regulars Adam Hinds, James Johnstone, Gregor Hunter and Dougie Fife were all unavailable for the visitors.

The game started at a ferocious pace with both sets of forwards refusing to yield ground. Currie dominated territory for extended periods in the first half but had only three Jamie Forbes penalties to show for all their possession. Indeed, just before half time Grammar stand-off Rob Aloe kicked a penalty after a rare foray into the Currie 22 to make the score 3-9 at the interval.

The game changed after the break and Grammar went ahead in the 47th minute with a catch and drive after a line-out on the Currie five metre line. Prop Matt Dixon got the touchdown and Aloe added the conversion.

Further tries from wing Callum Anderson and lock Murray Douglas and a conversion and penalty from replacement stand-off Alex Hagart completed the scoring.

Grammar head coach Alex Duncan was pleased: “Our defensive performance today was one of the best I’ve seen in this league. That was a performance by a group of players who know that they are improving with every game.”
