Davis leads in Connecticut

ENGLAND’S Brian Davis took the lead during the third day’s play of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The Londoner, who shot 67s in his opening two rounds, moved to 12-under after blazing the outward half in 29 with six birdies, to lie a shot ahead of American Will Claxton and overnight leader and defending champion Fredrik Jacobsen of Sweden.

Ireland’s Padraig Harrington was one back on ten under with three holes to play in his third round. Like Davis, he was also six-under for the round, rattling in eight birdies but bogeying the fourth and the 14th.

Jacobson shot a 66 on Friday before thunderstorms halted play, meaning the completion of second rounds yesterday.

J.B. Holmes, who underwent brain surgery last September, shot a superb 62 early in the day but was one over early in his third round and five shots behind Davis.
