Bo gives himself pelters for late double bogey at CIMB Classic

It WAS a case of what might have been for both Bo Van Pelt and Tiger Woods in Malaysia yesterday – one missed out on a 59 by double-bogeying the final hole and the other fell back into the pack with error after error.

Defending champion Van Pelt shared the CIMB Classic lead with fellow American Robert Garrigus with a round to go, but he so nearly achieved the magical figure achieved only five times in PGA Tour history.

However, at the 18th, he drove into the rough, pushed his approach into a bunker, came out weakly, chipped ten feet past and missed that for a six.

“Obviously I’m disappointed to finish with a double, but I’m really proud of the 17∫ holes I played and hopefully that’ll carry on tomorrow, not the last half.”

Woods was five back and only joint 10th. Scot Martin Laird would have been alongside Woods, but for bogeying the 16th and 18th.
