Wasteful Gunners held by Fulham

ARSENAL squandered a 2-0 lead for the second time in five days and missed an injury-time penalty as Fulham claimed a 3-3 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners, who were held by Schalke in the Champions League on Tuesday after being two up, went ahead through Olivier Giroud’s header and doubled their advantage through Lukas Podolski. But Fulham pulled one back after an unmarked Dimitar Berbatov nodded home and they equalised when Berbatov’s cross was headed in by substitute Alex Kacaniklic.

Fulham took the lead for the first time when Mikel Arteta dragged down Ruiz in the area and Berbatov netted a 67th-minute spot-kick.

But the visitors’ joy was shortlived as Giroud headed in Walcott’s cross. Arsenal could have won it in stoppage time but Mark Schwarzer saved Arteta’s low spot-kick.

Everton remain fourth after coming from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1 at Goodison Park.

Sunderland summer signing Adam Johnson netted shortly before the break. It was the first league goal by a Sunderland player other than Steven Fletcher this season. But Marouane Fellaini drove past Simon Mignolet after 76 minutes and, two minutes later, the Belgian cleverly flicked on for Nikica Jelavic to fire home.

West Brom won 2-1 at Wigan thanks to two Scots – a James Morrison header and a Gary Caldwell own goal. Arouna Kone pulled one back on the stroke of half-time but Wigan could not find a leveller.

Southampton took a 64th-minute lead against Swansea through Morgan Schneiderlin’s header but were pegged back nine minutes later by Nathan Dyer.

Stoke enjoyed a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to QPR, Charlie Adam scoring his first for the club.

Reading and Norwich drew 0-0.
